The Gender Pain Gap

Studies show that women's complaints about pain are often dismissed, disregarded or insufficiently addressed in medical settings. Following many accounts by women who told us they experienced severe pain during gynecological procedures, and since there are no clear protocols or guidelines for pain management in these procedures, we decided to conduct a survey on this topic. The goal of the survey is to understand the experiences and needs of women and, based on that, create new protocols and guidelines.

The Problem

Promoting Change

1

We conducted an online survey among 1,500 women regarding their experiences of pain and communication regarding pain in gynecological care.

We then published a detailed report with recommendations for the healthcare system, a summary report, and two guides - one for patients and one for healthcare professionals - on how to better manage and prevent pain in common gynecological procedures.

We organized the first ever Israeli conference on pain management in gynecology, together with Wolfson Medical Center, and we continuously work to implement our recommendations.
