Innovative Training Module on Trauma-Informed Gynecological Care
Keren Tkach-Maliniak | Dr. Gili Ofer-Bialer | Prof. Orit Karnieli-Miller
Project Goal:
Promoting Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) through evidence-based training developed in collaboration with patients.

Project Overview:
Physicians across all fields encounter patients with a history of trauma. These encounters require awareness, sensitivity, strong communication skills, and knowledge regarding trauma-informed care, in order to prevent re-traumatization and encourage future engagement with healthcare.
Tel Aviv University’s Medical School has launched an initial training program on trauma-informed approaches for survivors of violence and sexual assault, aimed at students in the preclinical stage. Given recent events, the need for comprehensive, ongoing clinical training, in the hospitals affiliated with the university has grown.
This program integrates applied learning methods to train both practicing and future physicians. It includes:
Developing educational materials
Conversations with survivors
Demonstration videos
Simulation-based training
In the coming year, training will focus on gynecology rotations, covering sensitive history-taking, adapted gynecological exams, and the impact of trauma on women’s health. The unique approach of training both current and future physicians ensures long-term implementation of TIC in everyday medical practice.
